Doctor Jeong In-seung

Doctor Jeong In-seung graduated from Yeonhui School (former body of Yonsei University) in 1925 at the age of 29 and taught teachers at Jeonbuk Gochang High School. Japanese monitoring and disturbance of teaching the Korean language started in 1935. He started working to publish a Korean Dictionary at the Korean Language Society from 1936 but was sent to Hamheung Prison due to the Korean Language Society Incident in 1942. After being released from prison with the independence of Korea from Japanese colonization in 1945, he dedicated himself to the publication of the dictionary, publishing it on 9 October 1957, Hangul Proclamation Day, and leaving a huge influence on the development of the Korean language.
He was a President of Chonbuk National University, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and adviser of the Korean Language Society. He received the Order of Merit for National Foundation and the Order of Civil Merit, Peony Medal.
